"Weeeeere Back!"
A few thoughts by Scott Field, the Preservation
Coalitionís new Executive Director
Itís probably been a long time since youíve seen either of us; myself or a full-blown issue of the Preservation Report. Hopefully youíll be seeing a lot more of both in the future.
About a year and a half ago our former Executive Director Tim Tielman left to form the Campaign for Buffalo Architecture and History. A year long, nationwide search for a new Executive Director ended with several promising candidates not working out. When it became clear that we were going to have to start our search over again, I decided to jump back in and so here I am.
Tim leaves a big pair of shoes to fill. An articulate, knowledgeable and passionate defender of our built environment, his persistence resulted in the creation of the cobblestone district and a plan for the Erie Canal that will be a real reflection of our history. His design skill brought the Preservation Report to a new level.
For those who donít know me, Iím a charter member of the Coalition, drafted our incorporation papers and bylaws and edited the newsletter for ten years. A few years ago I acquired a little run-down building in need of restoration, the Central Terminal, and created the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation.
As Coalition Executive Director, I hope to increase communications with our membership and work more closely with the other preservation related organizations in Western New York.
The Coalition, and preservation in Buffalo, face many challenges. Among them are the Richardson, the Vernors Building, 918 Main Street, and the creation of a new Buffalo Comprehensive Plan. With your help, I hope we will be able to meet these challenges and others that no doubt will arise.
More next issue.
