The architectural firm of Hamilton, Houston Lownie has been hired by the Polish Community Center to undertake an engineering study of the Central Terminal. The Art Deco skyscraper, though vacant, remains an imposing landmark on Buffaloís East Side. City funding for the study was obtained by Fillmore District Council member David Franczyk.
Annette Juncewicz, Executive Director of the Center stated, ìThereís been a lot of speculation about the Terminalís condition, and we wanted to get experts in the building to make a thorough examination. This will give us an informed basis for determining what has to be done for the building and how much it will cost.î
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan earmarked $1,000,000 for the Terminal previously, but the money was sent to other projects after a deal with the Airsep Corp. to move into the building fell through. After a rally organized by the Preservation Coalition and protests by Franczyk, Mayor Masiello allocated $300,000 for ìmothballingî the Terminal.
