To the Editor:
Life is full of changes, some expected and others not. I will be leaving Buffalo to become director of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Andrus Foundation in Washington, D.C. After 17 years in Buffalo, it is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. This is a new opportunity that was too great to refuse.
The Andrus Foundation is the research funding and support arm of the AARP, a 33-million member organization representing the needs of older persons. The Association is interested in moving the foundation in a variety of new directions, and the opportunity to help shape research and policy in this field is exciting and challenging.
One of the great rewards of my time in Buffalo has been the opportunity to work with so many many committed and talented people to improve the quality of life in our community through historic preservation. Few other communities have a more dynamic and effective local preservation group. I can't tell you how much I will miss this part of my life.
Keep up the good fight and remember our new motto: “We're not self-righteous–we're just right! All the best.

Man Finds Greek Revival House of His DreamsTo the Editor:
Just wanted to thank you for mentioning my quest [to find a Greek Revival or Federal house to buy and restore] in the Aug./Sept. Buffalo Preservation Report.
As it turns out, I have found a wonderful Greek Revival in the town of Barre in Orleans County. Included on the 30-acre property are a large and small barn (perfect for setting up a workshop).
I’ll send photos as the restoration work progresses.

Thanks for Buffalo high schools recollections
To the Editor:
Enjoyed Richard Dattner’s recollections of Buffalo high schools in the Aug./Sept. Preservation Report. Even now I find them uplifting to look at, which I cannot say of most new ones!
